JOSEPH J. STEUERT IS KILLED IN ACTION
November 15, 1918

The brief article tells us Joseph J. Steuert lived on 25 Van Orden Place and was a member of
Holy Trinity Church. He was in the Marine Corp and was about 21 years old when he was killed in action in
France on October 5, 1918.

I titled the page the way his name, I believe, should be spelled because that is the way they spell it on the plaque at the library and the cemetery on Hudson Street and City Hall.

LAUDS VALOR OF LOCAL BOY
January 30, 1919

The article is a letter sent to Joseph J. Steuert's parents telling them how their son met his death on the Champagne Front in France during the War. Information moved much slower then; the letter was printed four months after Joseph Steuert had been killed in action on October 5, 1918.
